About Susan Torrance OBE

After a career as an Highland Cattle Breeder, Affordable Housing Expert and Rural Development Entrepreneur, Susan has returned to her first creative home, painting, She is currently completing an undergraduate degree at Glasgow School of Art, having just returned from Toronto where she has been on exchange to the Ontario College of Art and Design.

Her practice is based around experiences and images from her home in the Highlands, while avoiding the clichés built by necessity by the tourist industry round heather and shortbread. She is particularly interested in the displacement of the peoples of the Highlands and their impact on colonialism around the globe. The art of the indigineous Picts is a base source material for her, particularly with the traditions of matrilineal succession and the role of strong women in Dark Age society.

She held three joint exhibitions in 2019 in Dundee ( Generator Gallery ) Glasgow ( Rogart Campus) and Inverness ( WASPS Studios )

She is not currently represented and welcomes individual approaches by people wanting to discuss her work and galleries.
